Best Time to Visit Tulip Fields in New York
Before you start running out to find tulips near you because the weather hits 60 degrees, tulips generally don’t start to bloom until mid-April – May in New York. By this time, the tulips in North Carolina are long gone, so timing matters. I have a thing for finding tulips everywhere I go!
It is always best to check with the farm or garden before visiting to see tulips since the weather can be different every year. Tulips usually bloom for a couple of weeks!

Beautiful Tulip Fields in New York and Nearby
Tulip Fields on Long Island at The Waterdrinker Family Farm
As a Long Islander myself, I can attest to the amazing things the Waterdrinker Family Farm has blooming throughout the year! Not only do they have some of the best sunflower fields on Long Island, but they also have the most incredible tulip fields!
For the 2024 Waterdrinker tulip festival on Long Island, the Waterdrinker has planted over 1 million tulips in their fields for guests and even furbabies to enjoy! Did I mention they are also one of the best dog-friendly farms on Long Island? They usually run the festival for 4-5 weeks, depending on the weather and tulip fields! During this time, they will be open 7 days a week so as many people as possible can enjoy the tulips!
The Waterdrinker will also have food trucks and live music on the weekends. Throughout the fields, you will find fun photo props. The farm also offers barnyard animals, a jumbo jump pad, mini-golf, a wooden playground, and more!
Additionally, they also have their own brewery called Barned and Raised, which is located inside their former potato barn! The Waterdrinker is also a great place to go pumpkin picking on Long Island! Check on the Waterdrinker website for updates on when the tulip festival will officially begin!
Admission: Monday- Friday: $15 Per Person; Saturday & Sunday: $20 Per Person; Children 2 years and under are free. No reservation is needed. Tickets can be purchased on-site. The best way to get to these tulip fields on Long Island is by car.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Tulips
Another great place to see tulip fields in New York is at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden! If you’re lucky, you may even get to see the cherry blossoms at the same time! Known for having one of the most beautiful gardens in NYC, you really can’t go wrong!
During our last visit, the tulips and cherry blossoms were in full bloom by the second to last week in April. As always, each year’s tulip blooms are dependent on the weather!

Central Park NYC Tulips
One of the best free ways to see some awesome tulip blooms in New York is heading over to Central Park! In general, Central Park is one of the best free things to do in NYC! Specifically, in Central Park’s Conservatory Garden, there are 20,000 tulip bulbs. In the South Garden, you can view 25 different tulip varieties!
Other great locations to see tulip fields and patches in Central Park are by the Olmsted Flower Bed, the Shakespeare Garden, and along the Reservoir. The tulip fields bloom in April and May and grow up to 18 inches!
U-Pick Tulips at Holland Ridge Farms
Ok, so this tulip farm is technically in New Jersey, but it is only 1 hour away from New York City (which is closer than the Long Island tulip fields). It is also one of the largest tulip festivals in the USA!
Originally a tulip farmer in Holland, Casey Sr and the rest of the Jansen family purchased the farmland in 2018. They have just expanded to over 300 acres, and planted 8 million tulips in their fields for 2024!
Not only can you enjoy taking photos with these beautiful tulips, but you can also pick them at $1 a stem! For 2024, they brought back picnics and are expected to open back up in April!
Additionally, they will have food trucks and are open rain or shine! From New York, the best way to get to these tulip fields is by car. For tickets to the Holland Ridge Farms, click here!

Albany Tulip Festival New York
Not all the tulip fields are around New York City! If you happen to be near New York State Capitol of Albany during the spring, these tulip fields and festival is known as one of their biggest spring events! This year, they have planted over 140,000 tulips of 150 different varieties to celebrate Albany’s Dutch heritage roots!
Located at Washington Park, the festival will have tons of local artists selling their crafts, good food, 2 entertainment stages with live music, and a kid zone! On top of all of this, the event is completely free to enjoy! The event is happening on May 11th and 12th. For an event breakdown, click here!
