One of the greatest experiences during spring in Holland is visiting a real tulip farm. You will see the colorful flower fields and meet the farmer. Most farms are not open for visitors but there is a beautiful tulip farm near Keukenhof Gardens that you can visit during tulip season in Amsterdam.

There are two kinds of flower farms in the Netherlands. A farm can grow flower bulbs or the flowers. The first sells the flower bulbs all over the world for gardeners who love to plant flower bulbs and enjoy a colorful garden in spring. The second sells the flowers that can be found in flower shops all over the world.

The flower fields you can enjoy in spring are mostly from farmers that grow flower bulbs. The flowers are not going to a flower shop at all. That’s why you can enjoy the colorful flowers a lot longer on the flower fields. The farmers that grow flowers are mostly located in big greenhouses where the flowers are not visible from the outside. In the greenhouses they can grow tulips and other flowers all year long. So they don’t depend on weather conditions in winter and spring.

Tulip Farm De Tulperij in Voorhout

Just 5 kilometers from Keukenhof Gardens you will find tulip farm De Tulperij. This farm can be visited during the opening season of Keukenhof Gardens. The Tulperij is a relatively small tulip farm. It is a real family business and visitors are welcomed personally.

If you want to visit a tulip farm and admire the beautiful flower fields we definitely recommend to visit this farm. Because it’s located near Keukenhof Gardens it is a perfect combination. And the farmer and his wife can tell you the story of the tulips as no other.

Opening hours tulip farm

Tulip Farm ‘De Tulperij’ is open 7 days a week in the spring from March 21 to May 12, 2024. Also on Sundays and public holidays.

• Monday: 9.00 am to 6 pm
• Tuesday: 9.00 am – 6 pm
• Wednesday: 9.00 am to 6 pm
• Thursday: 9.00 am to 6 pm
• Friday: 9.00 am – 6 pm
• Saturday: 9.00 am to 6 pm
• Sunday: 9.00 am – 6 pm

This flower farm is a surprising and inspiring location. In spring you can get a guided tour through the tulip fields and enjoy the nice flower greenhouse with a coffee, tea and a Dutch waffle.

Times of the guided tours

During the tulip season, there are 3 tours every day. The farmer explains everything about the cultivation of tulip bulbs and of course you can visit the real tulip fields. There are guided tours at the following times:

• 9.45 a.m.
• 12.15 p.m. (Tour in Dutch only)
• 4.00 p.m.

The flower greenhouse and show garden of The Tulperij can be visited free of charge. However, we recommend you book a guided tour to experience the tulip farm at its best. It is advisable to book your visit in advance. There is limited capacity. Below you will find the prices:

Travel to the tulip farm from Keukenhof Gardens

You can easily travel to Keukenhof Gardens from different Dutch cities. At Keukenhof, you can rent a bicycle and cycle to the tulip farm via the purple cycle route. There are also several sightseeing tours in the surroundings of Keukenhof that include a visit to this farm.

Guided bike tour from Keukenhof to tulip farm

Every day during the tulip season you can book a guided bike tour. Your local guide will show you the best flower fields, tell you everything about the flowers and the flower area. The guided bike tour included a visit to the farm. The guided bike tour starts at only 400 metres from the main entrance of Keukenhof.

Electric Renault Twizy tour

Another fun options is the unique Renault Twizy tulip tour. You will self drive the electric Renault Twizy car (max. 2 persons). You will get a GPS route and an audio guide with more information. The Twizy tour included a visit to the farm.
